The Abdominal and Paediatric Centre has a new professor, centre chair in the form of 63-year-old Niels Uldbjerg, who takes over from Søren Laurberg.
Niels Uldbjerg from Clinical Medicine at Aarhus University and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Aarhus University Hospital has spent many years carrying out research in the field of pregnant women and their foetuses.
"I carry out research into the strength of the cervix and the amnion. If they are too weak, the result is a premature birth. In addition, our team carries out research into preventing pre-eclampsia and poor functioning of the placenta by providing the right treatment for the right woman", he says and emphasises:
"A good start in life requires a good prenatal life. Our research contributes to a high degree to ensuring optimum functioning of the placenta, as well as to avoiding premature birth. As life expectancy is approaching one hundred years for newborn infants, any initiatives that contribute to better health will have great significance," says Niels Uldbjerg.
He is looking forward to giving the young doctors at the Abdominal and Paediatric Centre the opportunity to realise their potential.
"When you get to my age, it is high time to pass the ball to the young talents. The position of professor, centre chair is a welcome opportunity to do just that," says Niels Uldbjerg.
