In 2014, the senior management team decided to reduce administrative costs by 2% annually in the period 2015-2019. This period has since been extended until 2021. The decision is based on a shared desire to spend a larger proportion of the university’s budget on research and education.

So far, the intention has been to realise the planned cost reductions through natural wastage to the greatest extent possible. However, at the ST Administrative Centre and the HE Administrative Centre, it appears that it will be difficult to do so through natural wastage alone. For this reason, we are now forced to consider alternative strategies for these faculties.
As a consequence, on 13 September, the administrative centres at ST and HE were informed about an upcoming round of cutbacks. Each administrative centre must cut costs by around DKK 7.5 million in 2018 and 2019. The budget cuts mean that the managements of the administrative centres will be introducing specific measures to prevent redundancies: a qualified hiring freeze, senior agreements and voluntary redundancy schemes. The budget cuts will put the administration at the two faculties under pressure for a time. This is a regrettable situation, and the faculties are facing a difficult task.

ST: The Administration Centre ST must cut costs
HE: Cost reductions in the administration are being brought forward
In response to the planned cutbacks, managers of these administrative centres will initiate an inclusive process, inviting their employees to discuss how the administration will perform its tasks and functions going forward. Current work on digitisation, process optimisation and competency development will also continue. Precisely the topic of the administration’s development is the topics of my blog post for the month: A smaller administration with larger ambitions.
