“Aarhus University is a large organisation and workplace and has a big social responsibility, and so we as board members believe that an overall sustainability strategy should be created for the university. Sustainability must be incorporated in the daily decision-making and become part of the mindset of employees and students, as well as the management and the board,” says Connie Hedegaard.
The main goal of the strategy is to ensure that AU continues to move in a sustainable direction so that the university can live up to its social responsibility. The strategy will thus provide direction and support and spotlight AU’s sustainable development.
“Aarhus University produces research that contributes to developing knowledge and solutions in relation to sustainability, but we also have a responsibility to incorporate sustainability in our degree programmes and in the many daily choices that are made at a large workplace such as Aarhus University. A number of good activities have already been initiated, which creates a good starting point for the strategy,” says Connie Hedegaard.
The next step is the sustainability seminar [link to the website] on 21 March, where students and employees are invited to exchange and gather ideas for specific sustainable solutions that can be implemented at the university. At the seminar, participants also contribute input to the new sustainability strategy.
