"Trine is in a class of her own. She has huge potential and is extraordinarily talented. Her position as one of the world's leading researchers within her field at such a young age is completely unique. Trine is creative and innovative in her research, and she has an impressive international network of talented research partners. I therefore recommended her for the Jens Christian Skou award, which she has now received," says Department Head Kristjar Skajaa from the Department of Clinical Medicine.

Trine Hyrup Mogensen is associate professor and specialty registrar, PhD, DMSc. She is employed as a researcher and lecturer at the Department of Biomedicine and Department of Clinical Medicine, and as a specialty registrar at the Department of Infectious Diseases. Here she works in the field of basic immunology and microbiology on the one hand, and infectious diseases on the other.

"It is a great honour to receive the Jens Christian Skou award. Not least when you have studied and work at Aarhus University, where Skou carried out his ground-breaking research, which later led to the Nobel Prize. It is a pat on the back for me and for the type of research I work on," says the happy award winner.

Productive and internationally recognised award winner

Trine Hyrup Mogensen uses her research to try and build bridges between basic research areas and clinical practice. Her goal is to learn about the immune system’s fight against infections and – in the longer term – to improve diagnosis, prevention and treatment of patients with infectious diseases.

"We have established the Jens Christian Skou Award to focus on junior research talents. Our most talented researchers need to know that we see and recognise their potential. Also that they should not doubt that we will do our best to support them in their career paths, regardless of whether these are here in Denmark or abroad," says acting Dean of the Faculty of Health, Ole Steen Nielsen.

Trine Hyrup Mogensen publishes her work in the best and most recognised international journals. She is a sought-after speaker and has brought millions of Danish kroner to the university in the form of grants from The Danish Council for Independent Research, The Novo Nordisk Foundation, The Lundbeck Foundation, AUFF and the EU’s Horizon 2020, among others. Trine Hyrup Mogensen has also received The Novo Nordisk PhD Plus Prize and the Young Scientist Award from The Scandinavian Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy.

At the award ceremony, Trine Hyrup Mogensen received a diploma and DKK 100,000 toward her research.

Trine Hyrup Mogensen is 43 years old and was born in Aarhus. She is married and has three daughters.
