Jørgen Frøkiær, department head at the Department of Clinical Medicine, has received a grant of DKK 20 million from the Moller Foundation towards the co-financing of a combined PET-MRI scanner.
2018.08.17 |
The million-kroner grant which Jørgen Frøkiær receives on behalf of the Department of Nuclear Medicine and PET Centre at Aarhus University and Aarhus University Hospital, strengthens diagnosing and research at Aarhus University and Aarhus University Hospital within diseases of the brain and heart also cancer diseases.
The combined PET-MRI scanner which Jørgen Frøkiær and his colleagues can now invest in, is an advanced super scanner that produces very precise images and information about changes in tissues and cells. This is known as molecular imaging and makes it possible to create functional studies using MRI and PET technology simultaneously.
The scanner will improve examinations of patients with brain diseases, different types of cancer – especially in children – and for a range of heart diseases.
The installation and operation of the scanner is being financed by Aarhus University Hospital.
