A new PhD project under the leadership of Ulrik Dalgas will conduct research into physical training as part of the treatment of patients with multiple sclerosis.

At the Department of Public Health at Aarhus University, researcher Ulrik Dalgas conducts research into the use of physical training in the treatment of different patient groups. He has previously been involved in showing that exercise is beneficial for people with multiple sclerosis.

However, up until now exercise has primarily been used for the treatment of functional impairments and other symptoms that begin later in the course of the disease.

In the new study, PhD student Morten Riemenschneider will go one step further and look into the effect of introducing exercise shortly after the diagnosis has been made. The hope is that early efforts will help patients to a better and more peaceful experience of the disease. The study will begin already in January 2018.
