Nursing professor carries out research into ventilator treatment

Pia Dreyer is new professor of nursing at Aarhus University and Aarhus University Hospital. She is at the same time affiliated with the intensive care department at the hospital in Aarhus. And her close affiliation with the patients will benefit the nursing profession in general and patients in intensive care as well as those with home ventilators.

The patients are the focal point of Pia Dreyer’s research and she has e.g. examined and developed how the conscious patient in intensive care and patients who receive ventilator treatment at home are cared for. The newly appointed professor is also involved in work on the best way for nurses to take care of patients, and she collaborates with medical doctors and other healthcare professionals in the hospital departments, with researchers at the university and with private companies, in the hope of creating synergies between research, education and talent development.

The new professorship, which is partly financed by the Central Denmark Region's research foundation, enables her to develop and strengthen research collaboration on clinical nursing both nationally and internationally.
