Is your data under control? This is a question that often makes researchers sweat a little. Because even though by far the majority of researchers are well in control of their research data before, during and after a research project, data management remains an area that calls for additional knowledge and a need to establish good routines.

A new website on research data management will make it easier for researchers to quickly find help and guidance.

The website offers researchers information on how to manage their data responsibly and properly in different phases of research, explains Project Manager Birte Christensen-Dalsgaard, who has headed development of the new website.

"Even before you start working on your project or application, it is a good idea to consider how you expect to collect, store and archive/publish your research data. Even though it is not a requirement from the funder, preparing a data management plan is a really good idea," says Project Manager Birte Christensen-Dalsgaard.

Understandably, research data management may be perceived as a troublesome task, but it offers many advantages. For example, good data management can:

  • help you and your peers understand your research project and its data.
  • make it easier to collaborate and share data.
  • make your research more visible, which in turn can lead to more citations.
  • make your research more transparent, reliable and reproducible.
  • ensure that you avoid loss of data.
