And the winner of the Fogh-Nielsen competition 2021 is...

...PhD student Thor Haahr from the Department of Clinical Medicine! He shares the coveted Fogh-Nielsen scholarship of DKK 125,000 with the two other Fogh-Nielsen finalists. The scholarship is awarded to young researchers who conduct excellent research and who are, at the same time, good at communicating it.

With their research projects in such varying fields as fertility treatment, heart massage and public health and migration, three of Health’s most talented researchers were chosen to compete in a researcher battle at the faculty’s annual PhD Day on Friday 22 January 2021. This year, the PhD Day was held virtually, in the process becoming the biggest digital event at Health to date.

Each of the candidates had ten minutes to present their research projects to around 300 colleagues from the entire faculty who were present virtually. Based on both the research and the presentations, a panel of judges decided who should have the largest share of the scholarship’s DKK 125,000.

Thor Haahr, who is a PhD student at the Department of Clinical Medicine, won the largest share of DKK 75,000. He conducts research into the significance of harmful bacteria for infertility in women. The panel of judges was impressed by Thor Haahr's sound clinical research and his treatment strategy, which is already being tested in hospital fertility clinics around Denmark.

Kasper Glerup Lauridsen, who is also a PhD student at the Department of Clinical Medicine, conducts research into hospital staff’s collaboration in the treatment of patients with cardiac arrest. He received DKK 25,000.

Andreas Halgreen Eiset, who is a PhD student at the Department of Public Health, received DKK 25,000 for his research into the public health consequences of migration.

Watch the videos with the three research talents as they each present their research projects in around a minute.

The scholarship must be used for research purposes and is intended to support projects involving new studies that build on research results achieved during the PhD degree programme.
