On Wednesday 27 October at 14:30, Ane Bull Iversen defends her PhD dissertation entitled "Stroke: symptom awareness, help-seeking behaviour and predictors of prehospital delay".

Stroke is a medical emergency comprising acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH). It is the second-leading cause of death worldwide and one of the most frequent causes of persistent disability. In most cases, reperfusion therapy must be given within 4.5 hours after symptom onset, but half of the Danish stroke patients arrive at the hospital too late. This PhD dissertation shows that the presence of a bystander, knowledge of at least two core symptoms of stroke and understanding that the situation is very serious are associated with appropriate help-seeking behaviour and arrival at a stroke center in time for initiating reperfusion therapy. In addition, the impact of the current national stroke campaign in Denmark has been explored as part of this new PhD project from Aarhus University, Health.

The summary is written by the PhD student.

The defence is public and takes place in the Public Health Auditorium (room 101), building 122, Aarhus University, Bartholins Allé 4, 8000 Aarhus C. Please read the attached press release for more information.
