On Friday 15 January at 14:00, Anders Gyldenkerne defends his PhD dissertation entitled "The quality of vision following small-incision lenticule extraction for myopia".

The surgical method SMILE is well-known for its efficacy at correcting high myopia (i.e. a refractive correction of minus 6 diopters or more severe). However, there are known visual side-effects, such as glare, after the procedure, and the consequence of the treatment for, among other things, the stereopsis and objective visual image quality is unknown. The project examines how visual symptoms for patients with high myopia operated with SMILE are related to objective parameters concerning the visual function. The project also examines how the stereopsis for patients with high myopia is affected after treatment with SMILE. Finally, the consequence of SMILE for high myopia to the objective visual image quality is examined, and the latter is compared to the objective visual image quality measured for comparably myopic controls.

The summary is written by the PhD student.

The defence is public and takes place online via Zoom and in Auditorium J116-113, Aarhus University Hospital, Palle Juul-Jensens Boulevard 167, Aarhus N. Please read the attached press release for more information.
