Professor Ann Wenzel from the Department of Dentistry and Oral Health at Aarhus University is a newly appointed honorary member of the Danish Dental Association. She receives the honorary membership in recognition of her revolutionary research in oral radiology.

When Ann Wenzel finished her PhD in the early 1980s, oral radiology was nothing more than a tool that dentists used before an intervention. Since then, Ann Wenzel has turned oral radiology into an independent and respected field of research, and she has, among other things, pioneered the development of dental imaging and the shift from celluloid-based film to digital data.
Ann Wenzel and her team conduct research in areas including when traditional 2D x-rays versus digital 3D CBCT imaging methods are most appropriate for the dentist – and not least for the patient. This research work has led to global guidelines on the use of CBCT scans in dental practices.
Ann Wenzel and her scientific breakthroughs have put Aarhus University on the world map, and have partly helped determine the direction for odontological research and education in digital technologies all over the world.
Very few people become honorary members of the Danish Dental Association and since 1948, only 24 people have been appointed honorary members. Of these, only three are living, with Ann Wenzel being one of them.
