Recommendations to ensure good conditions for liaison committee work

The framework of the liaison committee structure at AU will not be changed. This is the conclusion after a thorough evaluation of the liaison committee structure. Instead, a range of recommendations and a guide will be made available to support the work of the liaison committees.

In spring 2014, the Main Liaison Committee (HSU) appointed a working group to plan and carry out an evaluation of the liaison committee structure at AU. The evaluation included a consultation process in the liaison committees involving the occupational health and safety organisation. The evaluation also included several focus group interviews.

The working group concluded that although the liaison committee structure at AU is appropriate, it is necessary to work to improve communication and cooperation within the liaison committee structure. Therefore, the working group made a variety of recommendations to HSU:

  • The current three levels in the liaison committee structure (HSU, FSU/ASU and LSU) should be maintained.
  • As a general rule, liaison committees and occupational health and safety committees are to remain separate committees. However, an agreement can be made to merge the two committees.
  • At every HSU meeting, HSU must consider what information from the meeting in question is to be presented to employees.
  • The chair of HSU is to continue the work to prepare a common annual cycle for the tasks of the liaison committees to create coherence and flow between the three levels in the liaison committee structure.

HSU has approved the recommendations and has started to implement them.

Guide to ensure good conditions for cooperation in and between liaison committees

In addition to the recommendations, the working group also prepared a guide on ‘How to ensure good conditions for cooperation in and between liaison committees’. This guide contains several suggestions for how to create good cooperation and good communication internally in the liaison committees as well as externally with colleagues outside the committees.

The guide has been sent to all liaison committees to provide inspiration.

Facts about liaison committees

  • The purpose of the liaison committees is to  ensure a good workplace which is focused on the core task and is characterised by quality task performance, well-being, innovation and efficiency.
