Recruitment scholarships aim to attract international PhD students

To support the graduate school’s recruitment of talented international researchers, supervisors employed at Health can apply for funding to cover a research stay for potential candidates before they formally apply to the graduate school.

The opportunity to build personal and professional relations with colleagues, get help and advice from supervisors and work closely together on preparing a PhD protocol, provides a way of introducing Health to talented international PhD students. To support this, supervisors now have the opportunity to apply for a scholarship of DKK 15,000 per month for up to three months for possible future PhD students. The scholarship will cover expenses for travel, living, courses, etc.

By the end of the stay, the students are expected to have written a research protocol that will form the basis for any PhD degree programme at Health. However, students are not guaranteed admission to the graduate school after the stay.

"The supervisors will have an unique opportunity to attract strong candidates from foreign universities and collaborate with them for a time before applying for admission. This gives both parties the chance to build a good relationship and assess whether there is a match academically, before the candidates take the decision to transfer their lives and careers to Aarhus, and before we decide to invest in their research programme. At the same time, the supervisors have the opportunity to use and strengthen their international network by reaching out to the universities that could be relevant for finding these candidates," explains Head of Graduate School Helene Nørrelund.

How to apply for a recruitment scholarship

  • There is a deadline for applications for the scholarships twice a year – the next deadlines are 30 November 2021 and 15 May 2022.
  • Only supervisors employed at Health can apply.
