Health innovation gets a boost

Aarhus University, VIA University College, the Central Denmark Region and 12 municipalities have joined forces to provide a solid foundation for the development of the products and solutions of the future for the health service - for the benefit of Denmark’s citizens. This is being done with a renewal of the MTIC collaboration.

A new, binding collaboration to develop business-oriented health innovation in the Central Denmark Region, known as the MedTech Innovation Consortium (MTIC), has started work on giving the area a boost.

MTIC, as the collaboration is commonly called, will improve the transparency and professionalism of what the public health service has to offer companies. This will be achieved through education, matchmaking, knowledge sharing and the development of relevant competences in the member organisations, private companies and among the students – and by bringing all of these elements into play with one another.

The idea is to take advantage of the huge potential within health technologies located within the region by combining access to knowledge, research, professional networks, clinical needs and commercial forces.

According to MTIC, when the interdisciplinary initiatives are brought together, the healthcare sector and business and industry are also brought closer to one another, which at the end of the day creates the best solutions for the citizens.

AU will play an active role

The joint efforts will contribute to both new and better healthcare degree programmes, better treatment, strategic research and commercial growth:

"At Aarhus University we see the collaboration as the optimal opportunity to bring research-based knowledge into the projects and into the companies," says Dean Allan Flyvbjerg, Health.

"It is when we sit down face-to-face that we get to the crux of health-related needs and help to break down interdisciplinary barriers and cultural differences. It's important for us to continue to ensure that knowledge exchange takes place with Aarhus University playing an active role in this."

Chief Adviser Anders Roed from Health will join the board as AU's board member in MTIC.
