Medical doctor and PhD Nicola Pavese has been appointed professor at Aarhus University and Aarhus University Hospital. He uses special brain scans to investigate the changes that occur in the brain of patients with neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease.

Nicola Pavese carries out research into brain diseases and attempts to identify targets for new drugs which can treat – or in a best case scenario – cure diseases such as e.g. Parkinson’s. These targets are based on the results of the special brain scans (PET and MRI scans) which are his area of expertise.
The newly appointed professor hopes that his research can help clinicians to reach more accurate diagnoses, and hopefully do so earlier than is possible today. If successful, the earlier diagnoses can lead to targeted treatment strategies that can improve the patients’ symptoms and, hopefully, halt or slow down their progression.
