New professor is putting health psychology on the agenda

As newly appointed professor of health psychology at Aarhus University, Lisbeth Frostholm will help us better understand the role that the psyche plays in health and disease. With special focus on functional disorders, she is working to further develop research for the benefit of both the individual patient and the healthcare system as a whole.

We now know that many diseases are caused by a combination of biological, psychological and environmental factors. Lisbeth Frostholm conducts research into the significance of psychological factors in different diseases, and she studies how we can best integrate psychological treatment in the healthcare sector.

To achieve this, Lisbeth Frostholm uses studies of large population groups in her health psychology research, and develops, tests and implements psychological treatment programmes for patients with functional disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome and chronic pain, among other things.

In addition to her appointment as professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine at Aarhus University, Lisbeth Frostholm is also head psychologist at the Research Clinic for Functional Disorders at Aarhus University Hospital. She hopes that her professorship will provide better opportunities for highlighting the research field and put health psychology on the agenda.
