Regarding a possible legal labour dispute

We know that a possible conflict is being discussed around the department, and there are many questions. From the departmental management we will be reluctant to inform separately but instead refer to the AU website: http://medarbejdere.au.dk/administration/hr/overenskomst-handling18/

Currently we recommend that all groups consider where you may be vulnerable if the will be strike on April 4 and lockout on April 10. During a potential conflict, there will be people from the management here, and we will have emergency plans (we do not know their extend at the moment). We would like to encourage everyone, if the situation arises, to respect the conflict's rules and the colleagues. There will be a day when the cooperation will resume. We will, if necessary, regularly return with further information, but currently refer to the AU website.

 

Status of new movement plans

After the first consultation round, we have in the Management Group made so many changes that they were sent out in a second consultation round with a consultation deadline on 22 March. Only then can the announced meetings be held. It should be noted that some of the suggestions received in the 1st round have been about adjustments (for example exchange of offices) that we have found best to take into account at the forthcoming meetings.

The Department's research areas

The department's research is currently divided into 9 research areas:

Neurobiology

Cell membranes

Cell Biology

Protein Research

Physiology

Bacteriology

Virology and immunology

Pharmacology

Genetics

However, the research areas needs an update, mainly since there is a large variation between the sizes of the different areas. In order to achieve more synergy between the department's research groups, the management team plans to initiate a process of adjusting the research areas which we will discuss widely at the Department - and involve Department forum and the research committee.

 

Special efforts for adjunct professors

The faculty wishes to associate recognized researchers from top universities abroad closer – in order to develop the international profile and strengthening relations with leading research units abroad. For the entire faculty, the goal is a total of 50 new adjunct professors by the end of 2019.

At the recommendation of 2-3 faculty members with insight into the candidate's field of study, the department head will recommend the dean to appoint the title of adjunct professor. The recommendation must be justified and document the candidate's qualifications, planned activities and expectations of results. The recommendation will be attached to the candidate's CV, publication list and possibly an academic assessment. The dean decides whether the title can be allocated on the basis of this, or whether an evaluation committee is to be set up. The candidate must be a highly recognized researcher within his or her field, and be employed as a full professor at the home university abroad. Priority is given to candidates from universities who are in top-100 at QS World University Ranking and / or are members of The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities.

The Faculty will allocate DKK 20,000 per adjunct professor to the Department's expenses in connection with the adjunct's travel expences and residence at the faculty. The adjunct professor will normally perform the following tasks:

Participate in research collaboration with researchers at the institute

General promotion of cooperation and exchange of experience

Guest education at pre- and postgraduate level

Guest lectures / conferences

PhD supervision

Participate in assessment committees and search committees

Status of the department's finances

We have received the financial result for 2017, and it looks good. There is a surplus of about 7 million DKK - and the surplus can be transferred to 2018. There was a cautious budget for 2017 as we face economic challenges in the coming years, and therefore the year is fortunately also finished with a surplus. The overhead revenue and consumption of external funds (DR4) are higher than the year before - as expected.

Proposal for the EliteForsk Prize 2019

The Faculty's internal deadline for submission of proposals is already Wednesday, April 25, 2018. The award is awarded to researchers under 45 years of international special class. For each proposal, attach the following documents (max 5 pages):

A brief motivation of a maximum of 2,400 signs - must be in Danish

A short CV of 1-2 pages - must be in Danish or English

A short publication list of 1-2 pages - must be in Danish or English

Access to Bioanalyzer

A bioanalyzer; Agilent 2100 has been purchased by the Mette Madsen group co-funded by the Department of Biomedicine for measurements of RNA integrity in the nanoscale range. The apparatus can be used by staff at Biomedicine after contacting Mette Madsen. Use of this instrument requires proper instruction (primarily to avoid contamination) and furthermore that certain tools and kits are purchased on beforehand.
