On Friday 20 August at 14:00, Maria Skydt Lindgren defends her PhD dissertation entitled "Chemoresection in non-muscle invasive bladder cancer - Can we avoid TURBT in recurrent tumours?"
The current treatment of superficial bladder cancer is surgery followed by bladder instillations with chemotherapy. A PhD project from Aarhus University, Health have compared the current standard treatment with a new experimental treatment strategy. In the experiment, patients have received bladder instillations with chemotherapy up-front and received surgery only, if the instillation did not remove all bladder tumours. The results show that more than half of patients treated could avoid surgery. This could have a big impact on affected patients that frequently suffer recurrent disease and require repeated surgery.
The summary is written by the PhD student.
The defence is public and takes place in Auditorium B, Aarhus University Hospital, Palle Juul-Jensens Boulevard 99, 8200 Aarhus N and online via Zoom. Please read the attached press release for more information.
