This year, the Scandinavian Dental Association’s Bensow Award goes to Peter Svensson, who is professor of pain research and treatment. He receives the award for his groundbreaking research into orofacial pain – pain in the mouth, jaw and face.

"I'm extremely pleased to receive the scientific recognition which this award represents. In recent years, our research unit at Aarhus University has received international attention, and I'm proud to have put orofacial research on the world map," says Peter Svensson.

Peter Svensson is a pioneer in the diagnosis and treatment of orofacial pain. He has helped to promote the understanding of the great significance of the pain for patients' health and well-being. Recently, Peter Svensson was one of the driving forces behind a common, international system for classifying pain, approved by the WHO. Medical doctors and dentists now have a common language and the same understanding of this pain, in turn benefiting the patients.

A committee of representatives from each of the dental associations in the Nordic countries makes the Bensow Award annually. DKK 140,000 follows the award.
