On Friday 5 February at 14:00, Berit Bargum Booth defends her PhD dissertation entitled "Cervical Dysplasia – Can the diagnostic procedures be improved? Evaluation of Dynamic Spectral Imaging colposcopy in a Danish clinical setting".

In Denmark, approximately 400 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer each year. Cervical cancer is preceded by cervical dysplasia and around 15.000 women are diagnosed with cervical dysplasia each year in Denmark. These women are referred for a colposcopic examination, where the cervix is assessed for signs of dysplasia and biopsies are taken. This is the accepted procedure worldwide. However, previous research has shown that colposcopy is a subjective examination, and areas with high-grade dysplasia may be overlooked. New digital technologies have the potential to improve the performance of colposcopy. Dynamic Spectral Imaging (DSI) is   one of these technologies. DSI colposcopy has shown promising results in smaller studies. The PhD project contributes with new knowledge on the performance of the DSI colposcope in a Danish clinical setting where four cervical biopsies are always taken regardless of visible lesions at colposcopy.

The summary is written by the PhD student.

The defence is public and takes place online. Please read the attached press release for more information.
