Date | Fri 26 Feb |
Time | 11:00 — 13:00 |
Location | Online via Zoom |
On Friday 26 February at 11.00, Anne Birkeholm Jensen defends her PhD dissertation "Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans - Experimental and clincal studies".
Severe periodontal disease, periodontitis, in especially young individuals may be associated with the oral bacterium, Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans. A. actinomycetemcomitans may be a part of the normal microbiota, but A. actinomycetemcomitans also possesses several virulence factors that may initiate disease. The prevalence of this oral bacterium in the Danish adolescent population has now been established through a new PhD project.
In addition to important knowledge about the presence of A. actinomycetemcomitans in the Danish adolescent population living in the municipality of Aarhus, the PhD project also contributes with results concerning the amoxicillin susceptibility of this oral microorganism, which is the preferred antimicrobial agent in the treatment of A. actinomycetemcomitans-associated diseases. Finally, a thorough investigation of the production and expression of the protein, Leukotoxin has been carried out. Leukotoxin is one of most significant virulence mechanisms of A. actinomycetemcomitans.
The summary is written by the PhD student.
The defence is public and takes place online. Please read the attached press release for more information.
