On Friday 19 March at 14:00, Line Stjernholm Tipsmark defends her PhD dissertation entitled "Organisation of emergency departments: An evaluation of the policy design".
In Denmark, acutely ill patients account for about 8% of ambulant contacts and 71% of admissions to the hospitals, and the emergency departments (EDs) are facing problems with crowding and limited resources. In 2007, the Danish Health Authority published a national policy of the organisation of Danish EDs, and policy goals included consistent quality, continuity of care and efficient resource use no matter the time and place.
This PhD project has investigated the national policy recommendations in terms of: implementation status and the effects of the reorganisation on health, quality and costs. Furthermore, organisational determinants and effects of diagnostic quality were assessed. Hip fracture and erysipelas emergency episodes from 2008 to 2016 were chosen as study population. From organisational theory, the multi-contingency model and information processing theory was applied as an overall analytical framework.
The summary is written by the PhD student.
The defence is public and takes place online. Please read the attached press release for more information.
