Danes suffering from depression are more often than others admitted to hospital for diseases that could be treated by the local health service without hospital admittance.

Based on data from five million Danes, researchers from Aarhus University have found that people suffering from depression are admitted and re-admitted to hospital for physical diseases, even though this could have been avoided.

Finances in balance – but major challenges in 2017-19

After the major budget reductions of 2014, balance has been restored to Aarhus University’s finances. With an expected surplus of approx. DKK 65 million in 2015, the university is in a reasonable position to counterbalance the government’s announced cutbacks to research and education in the period 2016-2019.

New director with strong university background

Aarhus University’s new university director is 48-year-old Arnold Boon. For the past nine years, Boon has served as administrative and faculty director of the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences (SUND) at the University of Copenhagen. He will take up his new position on 1 January 2016.

New management structure on the way for the PhD programme

The talent area at Health will be strengthened when Vice-Dean and Head of Graduate School Lise Wogensen Bach shortly lets go of the reins as the day-to-day head of graduate school and concentrates more fully on the strategic aspects in collaboration with a new head of graduate school who will work on a half time basis.
