New deputy university director for AU Finance has experience from the university sector

The new deputy university director for AU Finance, Morten Winterberg, comes to AU from a position as CFO of Aalborg University. He will take up his position on 14 June 2021.

Aarhus University's new deputy university director for AU Finance is Morten Winterberg.

Aarhus University's new deputy university director for AU Finance, Morten Winterberg, has solid experience from the university sector. For the past eight years o0r so, Winterberg has served as the CFO of Aalborg University, where he has had overall responsibility for the university's financial management andaccounting. Prior to his time at AAU, he worked at Terma for a number of years, where he held various leadership positions. Winterberg has an MSc in economics, financial management and informatics from the Aarhus School of Business (now Aarhus BSS).

A unanimous appointment committee headed by University Director Arnold Boon selected Winterberg. Arnold Boon highlighted his solid experience from both the private sector and the university sector. He also pointed to three important additional reasons for the committee’s choice:

"Morten Winterberg is known for his ability to manage daily operations and deal with challenges – including the unforeseen ones – with assurance and impressive strategic insight. In addition, he has experience with the development of financial management and digitalisation. Last but not least, he has strong collaborative skills, which I'm sure that both staff and managers at AU will benefit from. I'm very much looking forward to our collaboration.”

Winterberg will take up the position at the same time as the division of AU Finance and Estates Projects and Development becomes a reality. One of Winterberg’s most important tasks will be to ensure that the university’s finances are managed with high level of professionalism, and that the university’s finances are managed to further the university’s strategic objectives. At the same time, he will head the process of improving our services within budget and accounting, as well as in procurement and business intelligence. Morten Winterberg is looking forward to working with the unit's employees and the university’s executive leadership team.

"In collaboration with the employees, I am looking forward to developing the organisation's long-term financial management, so that we can best equip AU’s executive management to continue making sound financial decisions. And I look forward to working with the faculties to find good shared solutions across the university and to further develop the support AU Finance offers to researchers and teaching staff, so that they can succeed with the university's core tasks,” he said.

Winterberg now lives in Højbjerg with his partner Annette. He has two adult children, one of whom is graduating from Aarhus BSS this summer.

"I've lived in Aarhus almost all my adult life, and I'm proud to call myself a local. I feel that it’s an honour and a privilege that I now have the opportunity to work for the city’s university and an organisation that has such a significant influence on the society it belongs to, "he said.

Winterberg was selected out of a highly qualified pool of 25 applicants for the position.
